WHAT IS A TITER TEST FOR YOUR PET ?

Gail Simms

Pet Health Pet Safety Pet Wellness Veterinarian questions

Actually a "Titer Test" is a blood test to determine if your wonderful furry pawed BFF has enough anti-bodies for a particular vaccine, to avoid over vaccination. Most experts world wide agree that over vaccination leads to illness and can lead to early death. Rodney Habib is a wonderful Pet Wellness expert and has a great site full of information, www.Petplanet.com  For a clear understanding and explanation of Titer, my go to Doctor is Karen Becker, DVM NMD. Dr Becker's postings are concise, informative and come from a Veterinarian well versed and respected in the Pet World. This has become a very hot topic for us the Pet Parent and the Veterinarian and the LAW.

We must acknowledge here that it is the LAW to have your Dog or Cat Vaccinated, however this LAW has not been changed since the 1950's (in California) and I can't speak for all of the US or other Countries, but it seems to me with the strides that Medical Science has made today, that this LAW should be revisited. Most Scientist and Researchers agree and there is an undercurrent within the Veterinary community as well.

There is no reason that Fiona (Cavalier King Charles) at 15.5 lbs should have the same dose as a Mastiff at 140-175 lbs. It just makes no sense. Please investigate before giving that Booster your Vet recommends and be sure to do your own research before vaccinating.

LET'S PLAY...... WITH CATS AND DOGS

Gail Simms

BORED BORED BORED BORED ..... Barking Dogs, Cats Histrionics and Cabin Fever. Yes, we've had it all, but what to do,if you do recognize that your very precious Fur Babies are BORED. Yes, we've all been there, whether the snow is falling, and or there is too much to navigate, or the rain won't stop and your deadline is tomorrow (working at home?) or your kids need attention too. If your nightmare is all of the above, here is one great aid The Calming Herb Chamomile   there are many uses for this herb and you will be wise to always have some Tea Bags or Bulk Tea with flowers on hand. A soft gentle relaxer. Another wonderful source Dr Karen Becker DVM,  Healthy Exercise Tips  however this is really after-the-fact.

Okay so what to do now that you've cleaned up the toilet paper, trash, and recognized the  scratching, barking, pawing and whining, well you will have to set aside time just to throw the favorite toy or ball take out the Natural Cat-Nip you have been hording and yes, interact. Turn on the music and feel the calm entering your environment, because animals all respond to music. Actually music helps us all, no matter the genre, you will have to experiment, whether it is Classical, Funk, Hip Hop or Elevator just find the Zone and relax .

A SIMPLE DOG TREAT, GETS 5 GOLD PAWS-UP

Gail Simms

Best Dog Treats Homemade Pet Treats Pet Health Pet Wellness

In the world of Pets someone always has a better idea for what to feed your Furry Baby. So because I do my research and because of my friends in the Holistic Veterinary arena, and because of traveling to Pet Expo's for my Pet Wellness site, www.wagsandwoofers.com and because my passion is just giving you the information to understand what is out there so you can be a more informed Pet Parent, I have a great and oh so easy Dog and Human Treat to share with you today.

Sweet Potato Chews...... You will need 1 oven, 2 very large red (only) Sweet Potatoes, a sharp long bladed knife, and (preferably) Non GMO Organic Cinnamon and one Zip Lock quart freezer baggie. I don't worry about storage because they are usually gone in 2 days time. I have them oven ready and start to bake them before I take Fiona for her walk and starting my day and Breakfast etc, etc.

Okay here we go..... Set oven to 180* and then wash and cut the ends from the Sweet Potatoes and throw them away. Now grab that sharp knife with the long blade and slice those S.Potatoes a little less than 1/4" the long way until the whole S Potatoe is sliced. Put them on the clean oven racks (this decreases baking time)  and close the oven door. Walk away and check on them in about 3 - 4 hours. Of course if you don't have morning time the afternoon or evening is great, ( I work at home ). When you check on them they should appear a little orange still and the texture a little like leather (never soft) you see you are dehydrating them (taking the moisture out) by slow low baking.

When they are ready I take them out and cool them and then put them in that plastic freezer baggie and generously sprinkle them with Cinnamon and zip and shake up the bag. Pat yourself on the back because you have made a low calorie, high nutrient Treat for you and your Furry Pal.
